Worcestershire, June 22: Indian golfer Saptak Talwar delivered his best performance outside India this season, finishing tied for 12th place at the English Open on the HotelPlanner Tour after an impressive final-round surge at The Vale Golf Club.

The 27-year-old carded a four-under-par 68 in the final round to end the tournament at 10-under-par, missing out on a top-10 finish by just one stroke.

The result marks Talwar’s finest overseas performance and his second-best finish of the season after finishing runner-up at the DP World PGTI Open in March.

Beginning the final day in a tie for 24th place at six-under-par, Talwar climbed the leaderboard with his strongest round of the week.

He registered five birdies and just one bogey, gaining shots on the second, 11th, 13th, 15th and 17th holes. A birdie on the 18th would have secured a top-10 finish, but he settled for par and eventually shared 12th place.

Talwar had opened the tournament with a three-under 69 before adding rounds of 71 and 70 to remain in contention heading into Sunday's final round.

His closing 68 underlined a welcome return to form as he prepares for upcoming events on the HotelPlanner Tour.

The tournament title was claimed by American golfer John Catlin, who secured his maiden HotelPlanner Tour victory after an exhausting seven-hole playoff against Norway’s Kristian Krogh Johannessen.

Catlin produced a bogey-free five-under 67 in the final round, while Johannessen shot a flawless six-under 66 to erase a one-shot overnight deficit.

The Norwegian birdied the 16th and 17th holes to draw level after Catlin had enjoyed a two-shot lead through 15 holes.

The duo then parred the 18th to force a playoff and remained inseparable through six additional holes before Catlin finally converted a birdie on the seventh playoff hole to clinch the title.

The victory also marked Catlin's fifth National Open triumph.

The English Open returned to the golfing calendar this year after a 24-year absence and boasts a prestigious list of former champions, including Colin Montgomerie, Seve Ballesteros, Ian Woosnam and Darren Clarke.

England’s Barclay Brown and Sweden’s Per Längfors shared third place at 13-under-par, while Germany’s Alexander Knappe and American Jhared Hack finished tied for fifth at 12-under-par.
