Mumbai, Jun 29: Actor-comedian Vir Das has dismissed a viral social media claim alleging that a kissing scene with actress Kangana Ranaut during their 2014 film Revolver Rani left him injured, calling the story "pure fiction".

The controversy resurfaced after a journalist's claim about the incident went viral online. Responding to the speculation, Vir Das defended Kangana's professionalism and said the allegation was unfair.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Vir wrote, "Right. Just so we are clear. This story is pure fiction. Kangana was a complete professional and I still maintain, a truly gifted artist. This is unfair slander to her."

He added, "She went on to call me a terrorist a few years later for my comedy but on set…no problems at all."

Vir was responding to a social media user's query asking why he had not reacted to the journalist's statement and whether the claim was true.

The claim originated from journalist Simi Chandoke's appearance on Siddharth Kannan's podcast, where she alleged that during the shooting of Revolver Rani, a kissing scene between Kangana and Vir continued even after the scene ended, resulting in an injury to Vir's lip.

Similar claims had circulated on social media in 2023 as well. At the time, Kangana had reacted to the rumours through her Instagram Story, writing, "After Hrithik Roshan, did I violate poor Vir Das’s honour? When did this happen?" along with laughing emojis.

In Revolver Rani, released in 2014, Kangana played the role of the titular character, while Vir Das portrayed Rohan Mehra, a rising Bollywood actor who becomes her love interest. The film was directed by Sai Kabir Shrivastav and also featured Piyush Mishra, Zakir Hussain and Zeishan Quadri.

The film, made with a reported budget of around Rs 22 crore, earned approximately Rs 13 crore worldwide at the box office.

Vir Das was recently seen in Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, while Kangana's latest appearance was in Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, a film based on the story of nurse Geeta Madhav Gandhare, inspired by Anjali Kulthe's efforts during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
