Mumbai, Aug 23: Veteran actress and voice artiste Aasha Singh Jaiswal, who famously lent her voice to legendary actress Meena Kumari, has passed away. She breathed her last on August 22, her son Akkash Bharadwaj announced on social media.
Sharing the news, Bharadwaj described his mother as a "hardworking Iron Lady" and urged people to pray for the peace and salvation of her soul.
He also appealed to people to watch and remember her work on social media, expressing the hope that she would be pleased to know that her work continues to be remembered.

In another message, Bharadwaj recalled his mother's belief that work and one's actions were central to life. He shared a message urging people not to view death only through grief but to embrace what he described as divine bliss.
A quiet contribution to classic Hindi cinema
Jaiswal played an important yet relatively overlooked role in filmmaking through her dubbing and voice work, helping actors communicate their characters effectively to audiences.
Her association with Meena Kumari is particularly notable. Known for her powerful screen presence and emotionally intense performances, Meena Kumari's characters required a voice that could complement their expressions, emotions and dramatic intensity.
Voice artistes have historically received far less recognition than on-screen performers, despite their crucial role in shaping cinematic experiences. Their work often remains behind the scenes while becoming an integral part of how audiences experience a character.
Jaiswal's work with Meena Kumari represents one such lesser-known chapter of classic Hindi cinema and highlights the contribution of voice artists whose performances helped bring memorable characters to life.
Her passing marks the loss of an artiste whose contribution remained largely behind the camera but formed an important part of the cinematic legacy of an earlier era.
