Heavy rains lash Mumbai, several areas receive over 100 mm rainfall

Mumbai, Jun 29: After a prolonged wait for monsoon showers, Mumbai witnessed heavy rainfall on Monday, with several parts of the city receiving more than 100 mm of rain within four hours.

Overnight showers between midnight and 4 am affected several suburban areas, leading to waterlogging and traffic disruptions in some locations.

Important stretches including LBS Road in Mulund and the Andheri subway were flooded following the intense rainfall.

Residents shared visuals of the heavy downpour on social media, showing the impact of the rains across different parts of the city.

According to data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Veena Nagar in Mulund recorded the highest rainfall in the city suburbs with 160.4 mm, while Versova in the western suburbs received 156.8 mm.

BMC automatic weather stations recorded the highest rainfall in Mumbai's eastern suburbs, with Maharashtra Nagar School in Mankhurd receiving 123.4 mm, followed by Paspoli Municipal School in Powai with 122 mm, Mithagar Municipal School in Mulund with 120.8 mm and the S Ward office area with 120.6 mm.

In the western suburbs, Versova pumping station recorded 121.6 mm of rainfall, followed by Marol fire station with 108.4 mm, Pratiksha Nagar Municipal School in Oshiwara with 108 mm and Malpa Dongari Municipal School in Andheri with 104 mm.

The island city witnessed moderate rainfall compared to the suburbs. Matunga recorded the highest rainfall at 53.4 mm, followed by Rawali Camp with 46.72 mm, Dadar fire station with 45.6 mm, Malabar Hill with 37.2 mm and Nair Hospital with 33.77 mm.
