Varanasi, Jun 29: A medical student of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) was found dead inside his hostel room, with police recovering a suspected suicide note from the spot.

The deceased, identified as Ritwik, was a student at the university. According to officials, he had failed to report for classes and duty, following which his colleagues became concerned and went looking for him.

When repeated knocks at his room in Sushrut Hostel received no response, the matter was informed to the BHU administration. The room was later opened forcibly, where Ritwik was found lying motionless on his bed with an IV drip attached to his hand.

Preliminary investigation suggested that he may have administered anaesthesia medication through the drip, resulting in a suspected overdose. However, police said the exact cause of death would be confirmed only after the post-mortem examination and forensic analysis.

A handwritten suicide note was also recovered from the room. In the note, Ritwik reportedly apologised to his parents, stating that he had failed to meet their expectations. He wrote that life was much more difficult than it appeared and that he was taking the extreme step on his own decision.

The note also reportedly requested that no one should be held responsible for his death, especially a young woman whom he described as someone who loved him deeply and supported him.

He concluded the note by bidding farewell to his family, friends and the world.

Police have taken the body into custody and initiated an investigation. Authorities are examining all aspects of the case while awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death.
