'I was bullied and sidelined': Actor Yudhvir Ahlawat recalls Bollywood struggles

Mumbai, Jul 2: Actor Yudhvir Ahlawat, who won praise for his performance in the Netflix film Kartavya, has spoken about the bullying he faced because of his height and the setbacks he encountered in the Hindi film industry before earning recognition.

In an interview on the Kadak podcast, Yudhvir recalled being mocked during his school and college days for his short stature.

"Things have changed now, but back then, I used to get bullied. In school and college, other boys were taller than me and would make fun of me," he said.

The actor also shared his disappointing experiences while working on major Bollywood projects.

Yudhvir said he had initially been told he would be shooting for 22 days for Yash Raj Films' Shamshera. However, he was called to the set for only five days, spent three of those days waiting in his vanity van, and eventually filmed for just two days.

"In the end, I appeared in only one scene of the film. I had originally been signed for a different character, but that role was later given to another actor," he said.

He revealed that he had a similar experience while working on Anil Kapoor's Thar, where he was cast in the film but later found that his character had been completely removed during the editing process.

Yudhvir has since received widespread appreciation for portraying Harpal in Netflix's Kartavya. Although 33 years old, he played a child-like character whose morally complex role earned praise from both audiences and critics.

The actor said the character was neither entirely innocent nor entirely guilty, but someone shaped by circumstances beyond his control.

According to Yudhvir, Kartavya marked a turning point in his career, with co-star Saif Ali Khan also appreciating his performance in several interviews.

Released on May 15, 2026, Kartavya also features Sanjay Mishra, Rasika Dugal, Manish Chaudhari and Saurabh Dwivedi in key roles.
