New Delhi, Jul 4: Australian authorities are investigating an online death threat directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his scheduled visit to Melbourne on July 9, according to Australian media reports.

The threat was allegedly posted in the comments section of a Facebook post promoting the "Melbourne Meets Modi" community event, which is set to be held at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium during the Prime Minister's visit, The Australia Today reported.

The comment, posted from an account identified as "Abu Mustafa", reportedly warned that Modi would "be coming to Australia for his death" unless the stadium's roof was closed.

According to the report, the matter was referred to the Australian Federal Police (AFP) on the same day the comment appeared online. Investigators have since identified the IP address linked to the post and are examining the circumstances surrounding the message, including whether any criminal offences have been committed.

The Australian Federal Police has not issued an official statement on the investigation.

Australian media noted that threats against visiting heads of government are treated with the highest level of seriousness. Security arrangements for high-profile international visits typically involve the Australian Federal Police, state police and specialised protective security units.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Australia on July 9, where he is expected to hold bilateral meetings and participate in community events, including the "Melbourne Meets Modi" programme.
