Udupi, Jul 9: The fourth day of the Manipal International Summer School (MISS) 2026 combined academic learning with cultural exploration as participants engaged in interactive classroom sessions before embarking on a heritage tour to the historic town of Barkur.
The day began with immersive academic sessions across various disciplines, enabling participants to strengthen their understanding through interactive learning experiences and discussions.
In the second half of the day, participants took part in a cultural immersion programme themed ‘Ruins, Memory and Storytelling.’ The group visited Barkur, the ancient temple town that once served as the capital of the Alupa kingdom, where they explored its rich archaeological heritage spread across the villages of Hosala, Hanehalli and Kachoor.

The heritage visit offered participants insights into the region's historical significance, architectural legacy and the stories embedded within its centuries-old monuments.
The programme concluded with a visit to the Yakshagana Kala Kendra at Hangarkatte, where participants were introduced to Karnataka's renowned traditional theatre form. They gained firsthand exposure to the art, history and storytelling traditions of Yakshagana, deepening their understanding of the state's rich cultural heritage.
The day's activities reflected the summer school's emphasis on combining academic excellence with experiential learning, encouraging participants to connect classroom knowledge with history, culture and local traditions.
