Patna, Jul 18: A devastating accident in Bihar's Bhojpur district claimed the lives of two young cousins and left their grandfather injured after a dilapidated boundary wall collapsed on Saturday, police officials said.

The incident occurred in Ward No. 6 of Bihiya Nagar Parishad, under the jurisdiction of Bihiya Police Station, when the children were playing near their home.

The victims were identified as Shivansh Kumar (3), son of Sajan Rajak, and Ankit Kumar (2½), son of Rahul Rajak. Both belonged to the same family and lived in the locality where the tragedy unfolded.

According to officials, the old boundary wall, weakened by age and poor condition, suddenly collapsed without warning, trapping the children beneath the rubble. Their grandfather, Chhotak Rajak, who was nearby at the time, also suffered injuries in the incident.

Residents rushed to the spot after hearing the collapse and immediately began clearing the debris in an effort to rescue the victims. Shivansh was found dead at the scene, while Ankit was pulled out in critical condition and taken to a nearby hospital. Despite medical treatment, he later succumbed to his injuries.

The tragedy has deeply affected the family. Shivansh was the third among four brothers, while Ankit was the only son of his parents.

Following the incident, police teams arrived at the location and launched an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the collapse. The bodies of the two children were sent for post-mortem examination.

Officials said senior district authorities, including the Bhojpur District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, have been informed and have directed concerned departments to take necessary action. The process of providing compensation to the affected families has also been initiated.

Meanwhile, the injured grandfather is receiving medical treatment.

The heartbreaking loss of the two children has cast a shadow of grief across the locality, with relatives, neighbours and community members gathering at the family's residence to offer condolences. Several local leaders also visited the bereaved families to express solidarity and support during their time of mourning.
