Kuwait City, Jul 31: Kuwait's armed forces said on Friday that they had detected and destroyed "hostile drones" that entered the country's airspace and targeted several vital and military installations.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, the Kuwait Army said the drones were intercepted after entering Kuwaiti airspace since dawn. It said debris from the destroyed drones caused material damage, but no casualties were reported.
The military attributed the drone attacks to Iran but did not specify the number of drones intercepted, the locations targeted or the extent of the damage.
The incident comes amid renewed military escalation between the United States and Iran following a brief lull, alongside rising tensions in the Red Sea involving Yemen's Houthi movement and Saudi Arabia.
On Thursday, Kuwait's armed forces said one person was killed during an Iranian attack in the country's northern region.
According to the Kuwaiti military and the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait, the victim was a Nepalese driver employed by a subcontractor of a Chinese company. The attack also caused damage to the company's property, while no Chinese nationals were injured.
Meanwhile, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed on Thursday that it had attacked the US Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, destroying two drone hangars and an aircraft and helicopter fuel tank, according to Iran's Sepah News Agency. The claim has not been independently verified.
The IRGC had also claimed last week that it destroyed a large US ammunition depot and struck facilities housing American personnel at the same air base using kamikaze drones, alleging that the attack caused casualties. These claims have likewise not been independently confirmed.
The Iranian force further claimed to have targeted a data centre of US company Amazon in Bahrain and struck US military facilities, including ammunition depots at Al-Adiri Camp in Kuwait and the watchtower of the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain. Independent verification of these claims was not immediately available.
