New Delhi, Aug 4: The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed the Appropriation (No. 3) Bill, 2026, by a voice vote amid noisy protests by Opposition members, while Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill for consideration.

The Appropriation Bill authorises expenditure from the Consolidated Fund of India to regularise excess spending incurred during the financial year ending March 31, 2023.

The Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill seeks to amend the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, the Income-tax Act, 2025, and the Finance Act, 2026.

Proceedings in the Lok Sabha were repeatedly disrupted by Opposition sloganeering and protests, leading to multiple adjournments before the House was finally adjourned for the day. The Lower House will reconvene on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Both Houses of Parliament witnessed repeated disruptions during the day as Opposition members protested over a range of issues, including the alleged embezzlement of Ram Mandir donations, police action against protesters during the Parliament March on July 20, and the Cauvery water dispute.

On Monday, the Lok Sabha had passed a Bill to increase the sanctioned strength of judges in the Supreme Court without any discussion amid continued Opposition protests.

Meanwhile, the BJP accused the Opposition of deliberately disrupting Parliament during the ongoing Monsoon Session and preventing the House from conducting legislative business.

The ruling party said the Congress and its allies were obstructing proceedings, thereby denying elected representatives the opportunity to raise public issues and debate important legislation.

The Monsoon Session has witnessed frequent disruptions over issues including the NEET paper leak controversy and the police action against protesters at Jantar Mantar on July 20. Opposition parties have been demanding a response from the Union Home Minister over the alleged firing on protesters.
