Florida Tulu Koota celebrates Its 2nd potluck get-together in Casselberry, Orlando

Media Release

Orlando, Aug 22: Florida Tulu Koota recently celebrated its second annual potluck get-together in Casselberry, Orlando, bringing together more than 50 members and their families for an afternoon filled with friendship, culture, laughter, and delicious food. The gathering was particularly special as Florida Tulu Koota is celebrating its fifth year of bringing together Tulu-speaking families and friends across Florida.

Members traveled from Tampa, Jacksonville, Miami, and Orlando to be part of the celebration. The get-together also welcomed parents visiting from India, with three families having their parents join the gathering. Their presence added a special warmth to the occasion, as elders enjoyed meeting fellow community members and sharing cherished moments with the community.

The event reflected the spirit of Tuluva community togetherness, with members enthusiastically participating in various activities. Fun-filled games were organized separately for children and elders, creating plenty of laughter and friendly competition.

Children enjoyed spending time together while the elders had an opportunity to reconnect, reminisce, and build new friendships.

A major highlight of the get-together was the traditional potluck feast, where members brought an impressive variety of homemade Indian and coastal delicacies. The menu included chicken urval, ghee rice, chicken sukka, idli and sambar, vegetable pulao, vegetable samosas, moong dal curry, fruits, juice, soda, banale da adye, and rasmalai cake, among many other dishes. The wide variety of food showcased not only the culinary talents of the community but also the love and generosity with which members contribute to every gathering.

The get-together was organized through the initiative of Shreevalli Rai Martell, who took the lead in bringing the community together. The success of the event, however, was truly a collective effort, with members actively participating, contributing food, helping with activities, and making the gathering a memorable one.

As Florida Tulu Koota enters its fifth year, the get-together served as a beautiful reminder of the strength of community and the importance of preserving cultural connections far from home. What began as a small initiative has grown into a vibrant community that brings together Tuluvas from different parts of Florida.

The second annual potluck get-together concluded on a joyful note, with families leaving with happy memories, new friendships, and a renewed sense of belonging. The celebration once again demonstrated that wherever Tuluvas come together, the warmth of our culture, traditions, and community spirit follows.

Upcoming cultural celebration

Continuing its commitment to promoting and preserving Tulu and coastal Karnataka culture, Florida Tulu Koota, in association with Nandi Kannada Koota, will be hosting a grand Yakshagana performance, Devimahatme, on September 20.

The performance will be presented by renowned Yakshagana artist Patla Sathish Shetty and his team, Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation. The event promises to be a wonderful opportunity for the South Florida community to experience the vibrant tradition, music, storytelling, and artistry of Yakshagana.

Florida Tulu Koota has warmly invited the community to come together and enjoy this magnificent cultural celebration.
