Sultanpur, Aug 27: Three passengers were killed and 11 others injured after a truck rammed into a private passenger bus on the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur district on Thursday morning.

The bus was travelling from Gurugram in Haryana to Supaul in Bihar when the truck crashed into it from behind, causing panic among the passengers.

Following information about the accident, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Prabhat Singh, Circle Officer Ashutosh Kumar and Station House Officer Mahendra Pratap Singh reached the spot along with police personnel. With the assistance of local residents, police rescued the injured passengers from the bus and shifted them to the Community Health Centre in Baldirai.

Doctors were treating the injured, while the bodies of the three deceased were sent for post-mortem examination.

Circle Officer Ashutosh Kumar confirmed that three passengers died and 11 others sustained injuries in the accident.

Passenger Ghanshyam Tiwari, a resident of Gorakhpur, said he had boarded the bus at Rajiv Chowk in Delhi. According to him, the passengers had stopped in Agra, where the driver was changed.

Tiwari alleged that the bus had been parked at an inappropriate location during the driver change when a loaded truck hit it from behind.

He said the impact caused passengers to fall inside the bus, following which they rushed out. Tiwari also claimed that the bus was packed with passengers and appeared to be overloaded.
He said one of the injured passengers suffered fractures at three places in the leg, while another sustained a back injury.

Police said the injured were immediately shifted to the health centre for treatment. Inquest proceedings were completed and the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination.
