Kozhikode, Aug 27: At least 20 people, including children, were seriously injured after a tourist bus carrying around 35 passengers lost control and overturned near Kakkur in the district on Thursday.

The passengers were travelling from Kalady to attend a wedding ceremony when the accident occurred. According to CCTV footage, a two-wheeler rider suddenly turned right without giving any indication. The bus driver reportedly applied the brakes and swerved to avoid the rider, following which he lost control of the vehicle.

The bus veered off the road, crashed near a petrol pump and overturned. Several passengers were trapped inside the vehicle following the impact, prompting local residents to rush to the spot and help rescue them.

The injured were later shifted to a nearby hospital in ambulances for treatment.

Police said a major tragedy was averted as no other vehicles or members of the public were present inside the petrol pump premises at the time of the accident.
