Bihar board to replace ‘Fail’ with ‘Eligible for skill training’ on marksheets

Patna, Aug 28: The Bihar government has decided to remove the word “Fail” from Bihar School Examination Board marksheets and certificates, with students who do not clear an examination instead being marked as “Eligible for Skill Training”.

Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari said the rules would be amended to implement the change and that the Education Department would soon issue necessary directives to the Bihar School Examination Board.

Tiwari said a student's talent and potential cannot be judged solely by examination marks and that failing to secure the expected marks does not diminish a child's abilities. He said terms such as “Fail” would therefore not be used on students' certificates.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary is scheduled to launch the “Teacher Support Portal” at a Teachers' Day programme in Patna on September 5. Students from the Bihar government's model schools, along with teachers from DIET and SCERT, are expected to attend the event. One selected teacher from each district will also be honoured with a state-level award.

The Bihar government has also launched the “Vidya Saathi” app for students of Classes 9 to 12. The platform aims to connect students with teachers 24x7, with around 75,000 teachers expected to provide one-on-one academic support.

Launching the initiative, the chief minister said the app was a significant step towards providing quality education to students and board examination aspirants. The platform will enable students in model schools to access online learning in addition to their regular classroom studies and prepare for competitive examinations, including medical and engineering entrance tests.

According to the Bihar School Examination Board, students of Classes 9 to 12 studying in 700 Saraswati Vidya Niketan model schools across the state can access free and unlimited educational support through the app. Students can seek clarification of doubts or study specific topics with the assistance of teachers at any time.

The initiatives are aimed at providing students with greater academic support and promoting a more supportive approach to education in the state.
