Kuwait, Sep 6: The Konkani community of the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Arabia Church, Ahmadi, joyfully celebrated the Nativity of Mother Mary on Friday, September 4. This much-awaited annual event began with a nine-day novena, prayerfully led by visiting priest Fr Manoj Victor D’Souza, Capuchin, parish priest and regional superior of Infant Jesus delegation, Nagaland-Manipur.
Novena reflection
During the novena, Fr Manoj beautifully reflected on the virtues of Mother Mary, highlighting her unwavering faith, humility, and complete trust in God's divine plan. He reminded the faithful that although Mary's life was marked by trials, hardships, and moments of deep sorrow, she never lost hope or questioned God's will. Instead, she remained steadfast in her faith, surrendering herself completely to Him and continually praising His holy name.
Each day of the novena, parishioners and children came together to honour Mother Mary with great devotion. Generous donors sponsored snacks for the gathered members.
Festive Mass and flower offering
The festive Mass on September 4 commenced at 9.15 am, with children carrying colourful flowers.
The solemn procession began with children dressed as angels, altar servers, Eucharistic ministers, lectors, and the celebrants, Fr Avil Rosario, Fr Darel Fernandes, and Fr Manoj Victor D’Souza.
After the blessing of the new paddy and the introductory prayers, the children joyfully showered flowers on Infant Mary while the choir melodiously sang 'Moriyek Hogolshiyam'. The vibrant shower of multicoloured petals created a festive atmosphere that touched every heart present.
Homily highlights
In his homily, Fr Manoj reflected on the vital role of families as the foundation of faith, love, and values. He emphasised that the home is the first place where children learn about God, compassion, respect, and responsibility.
He urged every family to remain united in faith, spend time together in prayer, and cultivate an atmosphere of forgiveness, understanding, and mutual support. He concluded by reminding the congregation that strong, faith-filled families are the cornerstone of a vibrant church and a compassionate society.
Noven Jevan and final blessings
As the celebrations drew to a close, parish priest Fr Darel Fernandes expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the congregation for their enthusiastic participation and extended warm wishes for a blessed and grace-filled Monthi Fest to everyone. He also acknowledged the generosity of the many donors whose contributions made it possible to uphold the cherished tradition of the feast.
Despite Kuwait's scorching summer heat and soaring temperatures, the spirit of faith remained undiminished. Nearly 1,500 Konkani-speaking Catholics from across the country came together as one family to partake in the traditional vegetarian 'Noven Jevan'. Their enthusiastic presence reflected a deep devotion to Mother Mary. The shared meal became a beautiful expression of unity, gratitude, and fellowship, bringing the Monthi Fest celebrations to a joyful and memorable conclusion.
