Mangaluru, Sep 7: Monthi Feast, the Nativity of Mother Mary, was celebrated with devotion and joy at AIMIT Centre, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), on September 7.

The solemn Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Fr Henry Saldanha SJ, superior of Ashakiran, Mangaluru, as the main celebrant. He was joined by Dr Fr Kiran Coth SJ, director of AIMIT, along with Fr Manoj Dsouza SJ and Fr Jerry Dickson SJ, who concelebrated the festive Mass.

In his homily, Fr Henry highlighted the virtues of Mother Mary, the challenges she faced, the freedom she shared with the world, and her sense of responsibility as a mother. He further emphasized that the day of the Monthi Fest unites the family to celebrate the feast and highlighted the importance of girl children and of Mother Earth by showing care and respect for the environment.

Earlier in the celebration, the new corn was blessed by Dr (Fr) Manoj Dsouza SJ, followed by a devotional procession with the statue of infant Mother Mary carried in a palanquin.

The celebration, which marks the birthday of Mother Mary, was also a reminder of the value of family and the significance of honouring the girl child.
