Mangaluru, Oct 23: Pilikula Nisargadhama’s Lake Garden will host a Matsya Mela and fish stocking programme on Sunday, October 25, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the coastal region’s rich fishing traditions and cuisine.
As part of the programme, around 20,000 fingerlings of catla, tilapia and rohu will be released into the lake. The initiative, which began in 1996, is organised annually, with grown fish later sold to the public.
Fresh fish will be available for sale from 8.30 am at Rs 160 per kg. The sale is not intended for profit but aims to introduce visitors to the fishing heritage and culture of coastal Karnataka.

A special food festival will also be organised this year, featuring a variety of freshly prepared fish delicacies. Prominent hotels from Mangaluru and the KFDC mobile canteen will participate in the event, offering visitors a taste of local seafood.
In view of the large turnout witnessed during previous editions, the fish sale and food stalls have been arranged near the outer entrance of Lake Garden for the convenience of the public.
The organisers have appealed to the people of Mangaluru and surrounding areas to participate in large numbers and make the event a success.
