Udupi: Adarsha teacher awards presented to 40 teachers at distt-level ceremony

Udupi, Sep 7: The birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and the district-level Adarsha teacher awards ceremony were held at the Adarsha Group of Institutions campus on the Alevoor-Kannuru road on September 6.

The programme was jointly organised by the Adarsha Charitable Trust, Adarsha Group of Institutions, Adarsha Hospital and the school education and literacy department.

A total of 40 teachers from government, aided and unaided primary and high schools, CBSE institutions and colleges across five educational zones of Udupi district were honoured with the Adarsha teacher award for their contribution to the field of education.

Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, who inaugurated the programme and presented the awards, said that students from Udupi district have been excelling in the field of education and bringing laurels to the district at the state level. He said teachers play a significant role in shaping such achievements and appreciated the contribution of the Adarsha institutions to the healthcare and education sectors.

MP Kota Srinivas Poojary said teachers play a crucial role in identifying students' mistakes, guiding them in the right direction and shaping them into responsible citizens and assets to the nation. He added that behind every achievement lies the contribution and guidance of a teacher.

Dr G S Chandrashekar, medical director of Adarsha Hospital, Udupi, and chairman of Adarsha Group of Institutions, delivered the introductory address. He said teachers have a vital role in building a healthy and educated society. He noted that progress in the state and the country is possible only through people who are physically healthy, well-educated and mentally stable.

Referring to the rise in health problems due to changing lifestyles, Dr Chandrashekar stressed the importance of maintaining an ideal body weight and following a balanced and moderate diet.

Additional deputy commissioner Abid Gaal, deputy director of the school education and literacy department Lokesh C, vice-president of Adarsha Group of Institutions Vimala Chandrashekar, principal of Adarsha Institute of Allied Health Sciences and Paramedical Sciences Dr N T Venugopal, and principal of College of Nursing Prof Sudheena were present.

Teacher Prashanth Shetty Havanje compered the programme, while Anushree of Adarsha Hospital proposed the vote of thanks.
