Mangaluru, Sep 8: The feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, popularly known as Monthi Fest, was celebrated with great devotion and joy at Our Lady of Miracles Church, Milagres, Mangaluru, on Tuesday, September 8.

The celebration began with the nine-day Novena in preparation for the feast. During the Novena, children and parishioners participated with devotion by offering flowers to Infant Mary. The floral offering reflected the love and devotion of the faithful towards the Blessed Virgin Mary.

On the feast day, the solemn Eucharistic Mass was celebrated by Fr Ivan Michael Rodrigues. Fr Alwyn Serao, Fr Joseph Uday Fernandes, Fr Avith Pais and Fr Gerald Pinto assisted in the Mass. The celebration was held with the participation of the parishioners. The newly harvested paddy was blessed and distributed among the faithful, symbolising gratitude to God for His blessings and the harvest.

Monthi Fest also highlighted the rich cultural and family traditions of the Konkani Catholic community. Families gathered together and shared a traditional vegetarian festive meal, prepared with locally available vegetables. The celebration strengthened family bonds, community spirit and devotion to Mother Mary.

The active participation of children, families, parish associations and parishioners added joy and enthusiasm to the celebration. The feast was a beautiful expression of faith, gratitude, family unity and community fellowship.

The Monthi Fest celebration concluded with thanksgiving to God and prayers for the continued blessings and protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary upon all the families of Milagres parish.
