New Delhi, Oct 24: A 23-year-old man has been arrested in Delhi's Burari for allegedly cheating several women police constables of around Rs 24 lakh by promising to marry them. The accused, identified as Vikrant Tomar, allegedly posed as a wealthy businessman on Instagram, displaying videos of luxury cars and a lavish lifestyle to gain the women's trust.
According to police, Tomar allegedly targeted women constables by promising marriage and subsequently extracting money from them under various pretexts. Investigators suspect that around 20 women constables belonging to the same batch may have fallen victim to the alleged fraud, although several have yet to lodge formal complaints.
The investigation has revealed that Tomar's live-in partner is also a Delhi Police constable. He allegedly used information about her batchmates to identify and approach potential targets. Police suspect that he systematically built relationships with the women before seeking money from them on different grounds.

To strengthen his image as a wealthy businessman, Tomar allegedly rented expensive cars for eight hours at a time and took the women on outings. He reportedly used the same vehicle to impress different women, creating the impression that he could afford a luxurious lifestyle.
Investigators further allege that he sometimes obtained money from one woman constable under various pretexts and used it to finance outings with another. A OneX betting application account was also allegedly used for transactions involving money obtained through the suspected fraud.
Police said Tomar was already facing five FIRs in Delhi in connection with similar alleged cheating cases. These cases were registered at Mayapuri, Hari Nagar and Inderpuri police stations, as well as the East District cyber police station.
The accused was released on bail in June. The Central District Cyber Police are now questioning him as part of the ongoing investigation to establish the full extent of the alleged fraud, identify other victims and trace the money involved.
Police are also examining whether additional complaints will be filed by the women constables suspected to have been targeted by the accused.
