Moqi, Sep 8: The Indian junior women's hockey team continued its dominant run at the 2026 Junior Asia Cup, thrashing Japan 7-0 in their third Elite Pool match on Tuesday.

The victory ensured India maintained its perfect record and secured a place in the quarter-finals. India currently lead the Elite Pool with nine points from three matches.

India will face China in their final pool match on Wednesday, with the result set to decide the top spot. China have six points from two matches.

India had earlier defeated Korea 4-1 before recording an emphatic 11-1 win over Malaysia.

Against Japan, India started on the offensive and took the lead in the fifth minute through Krishna Sharma.

India doubled their advantage in the ninth minute after a Japanese defender committed a foul inside the circle, resulting in a penalty stroke. Supriya converted the chance to make it 2-0.

India continued to dominate and added a third goal in the 14th minute when Purnima Yadav scored a field goal, giving India a 3-0 lead at the end of the opening quarter.

Japan showed greater attacking intent in the second quarter in an attempt to reduce the deficit, while India continued to search for further goals. Neither side managed to score, leaving India with a 3-0 advantage at half-time.

Japan began the third quarter with renewed intent but found the Indian defence difficult to breach.

India then produced a decisive five-minute burst, scoring three goals. Geeta Yadav struck a field goal in the 41st minute to make it 4-0 before completing her brace in the 45th minute.

A minute later, Purnima Yadav scored again to complete her brace and take India's lead to 6-0 at the end of the third quarter.

India maintained the pressure in the final quarter and added their seventh goal in the 50th minute through Sanika Chandrakant Mane, her first of the match.

India comfortably controlled the remainder of the game to register their third straight victory and another emphatic win in the Elite Pool.
