New Delhi, Sep 14: On the occasion of Hindi Diwas, the Supreme Court on Monday launched 'Jan Soochna Seva', a new public information service in Hindi aimed at making access to justice more inclusive.

Under the initiative, simplified Hindi summaries of selected significant judgments and orders will be made available to the public. The service will also provide Hindi audio and video bulletins of around 15 to 30 minutes.

The Supreme Court said the initiative has been launched for the convenience of ordinary citizens and litigants, particularly persons with disabilities, enabling them to understand significant judgments, their implications and subsequent proceedings in a language familiar to them.

"Its objective is to make access to justice more inclusive and to link the respect accorded to Indian languages with the dissemination of judicial information to the public," the court said in a press statement.

The use of simple language along with audio and video formats will also benefit people who find it difficult to read or understand lengthy legal documents, it said.

The service will initially be available in Hindi. Work will soon begin to extend it to other Indian languages in a phased manner.

"The initiative will enable citizens from diverse linguistic regions of the country to access concise and easy-to-understand information regarding significant Supreme Court judgments in their own languages," the statement said.

The initiative is part of the Supreme Court's efforts to make judicial information more accessible to citizens and bridge linguistic barriers in accessing important legal developments.
