New Delhi, Sep 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said India's Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with various countries were opening new opportunities for the country's youth by creating access to new markets and partnerships.
Addressing the 20th Rozgar Mela virtually, Modi said India had signed 40 FTAs and that such agreements were creating new possibilities for entrepreneurs and careers for young people.
“India signed 40 Free Trade Agreements. These FTAs are opening new doors of possibilities for our youth. Such trade agreements pave the way for new partnerships for our entrepreneurs, open paths to new markets, and create new possibilities in careers for our youth,” he said.
The Prime Minister distributed more than 51,000 appointment letters virtually to newly recruited youth joining various Central government ministries, departments and organisations. The Rozgar Mela was organised simultaneously at 45 locations across the country.
The new recruits will join departments and ministries including the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Financial Services and Ministry of Defence.
Referring to the recently concluded BRICS Summit, Modi said India's effort was to ensure that BRICS cooperation extended beyond governments and involved entrepreneurs, farmers, women and youth.
He also highlighted India's startup ecosystem, saying the country is now the world's third-largest startup ecosystem and that the sector was no longer confined to major cities. He said nearly half of recognised startups are located in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
Modi said India's youth would have an important role in the country's goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047. He urged the newly recruited government employees to take decisions that strengthen the country's development and self-reliance efforts.
He also said “Nagrik devo bhava” — citizens are god — should remain the guiding spirit of public service.
The government said the Rozgar Mela reflects its focus on creating employment opportunities for youth and increasing their participation in the country's development. With the 20th edition, about 12.75 lakh young people have received appointment letters through the Rozgar Mela initiative.
