Mangalore Mar 30: A national level workshop on 'Inclusive Growth: Concept and Reality' organized by the post graduation department of economics, St Aloysius College, here. "Even at this stage a lot of confusion at the policy making level regarding the concept and policy implications of inclusive growth," said Dr G V Joshi, member, planning board GOK, after inaugurating the workshop.
He said that even leaders at the central level have argued that inclusive growth means taking the fruits of growth to all sections of the society. But at this stage of development the country cannot afford this concept because, it has yet to experience double digit growth. Therefore virtually we are facing a situation in which growth versus inclusive growth.
Inclusive growth should be understood as a growth process which should benefit the sections of the society by passed by the growth process so far. It calls a carefully designed policy intervention at central, state and local levels. Inclusive growth calls for inclusive investment and inclusive governance. It is the time to review the working of the 73rd and 74th amendments to the Indian Constitution to improve the process of decentralization to ensure inclusive growth.
He further said, "The deputy chairman of Indian Planning Commission Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia has admitted that inclusive growth is a complex process. The complexity arises particularly in India because of economic exclusion, social exclusion and political exclusion side
by side. Dr Joshi congratulated the PG department of economics of St Aloysius College for orgainsing the workshop. He said such
workshops should help to clarify all the issues of inclusive growth.
Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ presided over the function and Fr Walter Andrade, finance officer was the guest of honour. B V Raghunandan, associate professor of commerce, SVS College Bantwal (Financial Services For Inclusive Growth) and Dr T Mallikarjunappa, professor, department of
business administration and co-coordinator MBA (tourism administration), Mangalore University (Financial Institutions For Inclusive Growth) were the resource persons.
Dr Norbert Lobo, convener of the workshop spoke about the need for holding the workshop. Dr Sajimon proposed the vote of thanks and Ramya Salins compered the programme.
As many as 175 delegates from states of Goa, Kerala, and Karnataka participated in the day long workshop.
