Beltangady, Oct 8: A fire that broke out at a health clinic in Navoor late Tuesday night damaged three rooms of the clinic and destroyed a large quantity of equipment and other materials. The incident came to light on Wednesday.

The health clinic run by Dr Pradeep A is located in Swathi Building, owned by Shekhar Poojary of Navoor village. A private organisation’s office is also functioning adjacent to the clinic.

The fire caused extensive damage to three rooms, including the consultant’s room. Beds, medicines, electronic equipment and several other items were destroyed in the blaze, causing significant loss. The office of the private organisation located next to the clinic was not damaged.

Police from Beltangady police station and a forensic investigation team visited the spot and conducted an inspection. Burnt materials and other evidence from the scene were examined and collected as part of the investigation.

Hundreds of people gathered at Navoor market and surrounding areas after the incident came to light. Some locals suspected that the fire may have been deliberately set and urged the authorities to ascertain the cause of the incident and take action against those responsible.

Dr Pradeep said he was at the clinic until 9 pm on Tuesday and came to know about the fire only at around 8 am on Wednesday. He said he had no personal enmity with anyone and expressed hope that the police investigation would uncover the truth behind the incident.

A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
