Jammu, Oct 9: A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) trooper suffered a gunshot injury while on duty in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district on Friday, officials said.
The injured trooper was identified as Mohammad Mushtaq, a resident of Mari village in Reasi district. The incident occurred around 9.10 am while he was on active duty.

Officials said the circumstances leading to the firing incident were being ascertained. Mushtaq was initially rushed to the District Hospital in Reasi, where doctors administered emergency first aid before referring him to an advanced medical facility in Jammu due to his critical condition.
Further details are awaited.
It may be recalled that four CISF personnel were killed in a firing incident at the Sewa-II Hydroelectric Project unit in the Mashka area of Kathua district on September 29, following an altercation among deployed personnel.
An internal inquiry was initiated into the incident, and the accused head constable was handed over to the police. Those killed were Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh and constables Rafiq Ahmed and Sandeep Kumar.
In a separate incident on November 3, 2025, Naik Amarjeet Singh died inside a military camp following an accidental rifle discharge while performing sentry duty. He was immediately evacuated to a nearby field hospital but succumbed to his bullet injuries.
Earlier, on August 29, 2025, Naik Uppala Ravi Kumar, who was deployed with the 54 Rashtriya Rifles, died in an accidental firing incident in Ganderbal district. Local police registered a case after preliminary investigations indicated that his service rifle had discharged unintentionally while he was on duty.
Accidental weapon discharges involving security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir can occur during routine sentry duties, vehicle movements or shift changes. Operational pressure, challenging terrain and the need to maintain constant weapon readiness are among the factors associated with such incidents.
