Jalgaon, Oct 15: A man has been arrested in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon for allegedly murdering his married lover after she pressured him to marry her. The accused reportedly attempted to make the death appear to be an accidental electrocution, but a post-mortem examination exposed the suspected murder.
The accused, identified as Javed Shaikh, and the victim, Kavita, were both in their mid-30s. According to the investigation, an argument broke out between the two over Kavita’s demand for marriage. Shaikh allegedly struck her head with a heavy object and placed an immersion heater near her body to make it appear that she had died from an electric shock.

Kavita was taken to AIIMS Nagpur, where doctors declared her dead. The MIDC police initially registered a case of accidental death. However, the post-mortem examination revealed a severe head injury, raising suspicions about the circumstances of her death. The doctor also reportedly suggested that an electrical appliance might have been used to stage an accidental electrocution.
Police subsequently examined Kavita’s mobile phone call records and found that she had been in regular contact with Shaikh. With the assistance of local police, the accused was arrested in Jalgaon.
During questioning, Shaikh reportedly stated that he worked as an air-conditioner repair technician. The two had known each other since their college days, but their relationship had faced opposition because they belonged to different religions. Although both later married other people, they continued to remain in contact.
Kavita worked at a mess, and her sister was married in Jalgaon. The investigation reportedly revealed that Kavita and Shaikh had been in a relationship for around 15 years. Shaikh would visit her in Nagpur when her husband was away.
However, he had allegedly begun distancing himself from her in recent months as she continued to press him for marriage. Police suspect that the dispute over marriage led to the fatal attack. Further investigation is underway.
