Mumbai, Oct 18: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar is set to reunite with filmmaker Priyadarshan for an upcoming comedy set in the 1970s, in which he will reportedly portray a quirky tiger hunter. The yet-to-be-titled film will mark Priyadarshan’s 99th directorial venture and will be produced by Ramesh Taurani.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the film is expected to go on floors in the final week of November, with a shooting schedule spanning approximately three months. The production is planned across wildlife locations in Rajasthan and specially created sets in Mumbai, while the team is also scouting locations in Bhopal.

Veteran actors Annu Kapoor and Rajpal Yadav are part of the ensemble cast, while the makers are yet to finalise the female lead. The script has been co-written by Priyadarshan and Rohan Shankar, who previously collaborated on the horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla.

Priyadarshan has refrained from revealing further details about the project. Speaking about the film, the director reportedly said, “Let the project get locked then I will talk.” The film’s title and other details are yet to be officially confirmed.

The upcoming project will add another chapter to the long-standing professional association between Akshay and Priyadarshan. The duo have collaborated on several Hindi films, including Hera Pheri, Garam Masala, Bhagam Bhag, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, De Dana Dan and Khatta Meetha. Their partnership has been known for combining comic situations with ensemble casts.

The actor and director have recently worked together on Haiwaan, a psychological thriller featuring Saif Ali Khan. The film is an official adaptation of the 2016 Malayalam thriller Oppam. Saif plays a blind man who must protect a young girl from a dangerous antagonist portrayed by Akshay. The cast also includes Boman Irani, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Saiyami Kher.

Priyadarshan also directed Akshay in Bhooth Bangla, a horror-comedy featuring Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Tabu and Wamiqa Gabbi. The film revolves around supernatural occurrences in a haunted mansion and was co-written by Priyadarshan, Abhilash Nair and Rohan Shankar. It was released in cinemas worldwide on April 17, 2026.

The new comedy is expected to bring Akshay and Priyadarshan back to a genre that has formed a significant part of their shared filmography. While the period setting and the hunter character offer an initial glimpse of the story, further details about the plot, the female lead and the official title are awaited.
