Rahul Gandhi to join Goy Rakhonn Yatra finale

Margao, Oct 18: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will participate in the culmination of the Goy Rakhonn Yatra in Margao on Sunday, as the party's campaign to protect Goa's land, identity and people's rights reaches its final stage.

According to a statement issued by the Congress on Saturday, the yatra will arrive near Daivadnya Bhavan at Calconda in Margao at 3 pm. It will proceed from Perpetual Succour Ground and Lohia Maidan before moving to Dr Rajendra Prasad Stadium, also known as the MCC ground, where the campaign will culminate in a public meeting.

Gandhi's participation in the yatra had been cancelled at the last moment on two earlier occasions. The latest cancellation occurred earlier this week, when he was scheduled to join the campaign in Cuncolim.

Several senior national Congress leaders, including chief ministers, participated in the 27-day-long yatra. The Congress said the campaign, which began in Panaji on September 22, received an overwhelming response from the people.

The yatra has been organised to highlight issues concerning Goa's land, identity and people's rights, with the party seeking to mobilise public support around these concerns.
