Ghaziabad, Oct 20: Two women died and an 18-year-old girl sustained critical injuries after coming into contact with a snapped high-tension power line in Bhovapur village of Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district on Tuesday morning, officials said.
The incident occurred at around 6 am when the three women went to a field to collect radishes. They came into contact with a high-tension wire that had snapped and fallen to the ground, suffering severe burn injuries.

The incident triggered panic in the village. After receiving information, police personnel rushed to the spot and shifted the injured women to a hospital for treatment. Two of them succumbed to their injuries during treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Satyavati, 50, and Ruby, 20. The injured teenager, Devshri, remains in critical condition and is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
According to the families, they cultivate land taken on lease. The grieving relatives were inconsolable and questioned the administration over the alleged negligence, demanding strict action against those responsible.
“When did the high-tension power line break, and how long had it been lying in the field? If the wire was already broken, why was the relevant department not informed? Why was the fallen power line not repaired in a timely manner?” a family member asked.
Police have completed the inquest proceedings for the two deceased women and initiated the post-mortem process, officials said.
ACP (Nandgram) Ziauddin Ahmed said necessary legal action was being taken in the matter. He added that the situation at the spot remained calm and a detailed investigation was underway.
The incident has raised concerns over the maintenance of power lines and the implementation of safety measures to protect farmers and villagers working in agricultural fields.
