Mandrem, Oct 22: Mandrem police have registered a case against a school teacher and other staff members for allegedly assaulting a 14-year-old student over a minor classroom issue and confining his mother inside the school when she raised the matter.

According to police, the teacher allegedly slapped the boy across the face, causing physical injuries, after he brought a short notebook to class instead of a long one.

The boy’s mother subsequently raised concerns about the teacher’s alleged conduct on the school’s official WhatsApp group.

Following her message, she was summoned to the school. When she arrived, the accused staff members allegedly acted with common intention and locked her inside the school’s control room by latching the doors from both inside and outside.

While she was allegedly confined, one of the teachers also attempted to assault and verbally abuse her, according to the complaint.

Based on the mother’s complaint, Mandrem police registered an FIR (Crime No. 93/2026) under Sections 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt, 127(2) for wrongful confinement, 131 for assault or use of criminal force, 352 for intentional insult intended to provoke a breach of peace, and 3(5) for acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

Section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act, relating to child abuse, has also been invoked. Further investigation is underway.
