Mumbai, Oct 28: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday appointed its MLC Zeeshan Siddique, son of late party leader Baba Siddique, as president of its Mumbai unit.

Siddique thanked Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP chief Sunetra Pawar, along with senior leader Parth Pawar, for entrusting him with the responsibility. He said he would focus on expanding the party's presence in Mumbai through an inclusive approach.

“It is a long journey ahead. I will focus on strengthening the party in Mumbai through inclusivity. I will work towards fulfilling the dreams of late Ajit Pawar and my father,” Siddique told.

He described Parth Pawar as an elder brother and reiterated his commitment to strengthening the party organisation.

Alongside Siddique's appointment, Sunetra Pawar named Umesh Patil as the NCP's national chief spokesperson. The appointment letters were handed over to both leaders at her official residence, Devgiri, in south Mumbai, in the presence of party leaders and office-bearers.

Sunetra Pawar expressed confidence that the two appointees would work with dedication to strengthen the party while carrying forward the ideals and public service legacy of late Ajit Pawar.

Siddique joined the NCP in October 2024, days after his father was shot dead in Mumbai. The party fielded him from the Bandra constituency in the 2024 Assembly elections, where he lost to Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Varun Sardesai. He became a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) in May 2026.
