New Delhi, Apr 4 (IANS): K. Mohan, the lead vocalist of music band Agnee, says they believe in making good music rather focusing on creating hit songs.
"Past experience has taught us not to try and make 'hit' songs to formulae and just make music that we think is good and honest," K. Mohan, the lead vocalist of Agnee, told IANS in an e-mail interview.
The band, known for creating rock and soulful songs, also consists of lead guitarist Koko, drummer and percussionist Varun Venkit, bassist Rushad Mistry, drummer Jai Row Kavi and Michael Pereira as rhythm guitarist.
Some of their hit numbers are "Aahatein", "Sandho re" and "Kabira".
Apart from making their own music, Agnee has been associated with popular reality shows like "Roadies" and "Splitsvilla" as the band members believe in promoting their creation through such shows.
"When TV and radio stopped playing non-Bollywood songs, we got a chance to showcase our music through reality shows on music channels and other platforms like online contest such as 'Create with Agnee'. Some decisions have been thought out and some fortuitous, but we've managed pretty well so far," Mohan said.
The band has also contributed a Hindi theme song "Hello Andhero" to Hollywood movie "The Avengers", which is releasing here April 27.
"We've been very lucky. We got a big mainstream release thanks to Sony BMG (now Sony Music). It released our first album, "Agnee", in 2007 and we haven't looked back since.
"Hollywood's upcoming flick 'The Avengers' is a huge platform for us and we hope we've more than done justice to it. Time will tell whether the song becomes popular, but we're sure we've given it all we've got, and that's all we can really hope to do every time," he said.
The band has hit Bollywood with "Kero mama" for "Paan Singh Tomar".
When asked about the story behind their band, Koko said: "We're known more for a rock and soulful sound rather than jazz and funk. We do come up with random genres of music because we don't like sticking to one.
"What binds us together even in a sonic sense is that we're a band that doesn't change from song to song. People have been nice to us and given us more than we could have asked for," he added.
Most of the songs composed by the band are very soft with full of emotions and are used in reality shows to use metaphorically as the background score.
