Mangaluru, Nov 2: In a moment of immense pride and joy for the entire Konkani community, Konkani Natak Sabha (R), was honoured with the prestigious Dakshina Kannada District Rajyotsava Award 2026 on November 1, in recognition of its outstanding and dedicated contribution towards the promotion and preservation of Konkani language, literature, theatre and culture.
The award was presented by the hon'ble minister, U T Khader, in the presence of other distinguished ministers, dignitaries and officials at the award ceremony.
The award was received on behalf of Konkani Natak Sabha by its president, Dr Rocky D'Cunha OFM Cap, accompanied by the executive committee members: vice president Floyd D’Mello Cascia, general secretary Pamela Santos, treasurer Ivan D'Silva and assistant secretary Jerome Moras. The Sabha's manager, managing committee members and other representatives were also present to witness this memorable occasion.
This prestigious recognition marks a significant milestone in the Sabha's remarkable 83-year journey, having been established on September 19, 1943 with a vision to preserve, promote and strengthen the rich heritage of Konkani language, literature, theatre and culture.
Over the decades, Konkani Natak Sabha has played a significant role in bringing the Konkani community together through theatrical performances, cultural activities, literary initiatives, music competitions and various community programmes. It has provided a platform for generations of artistes, encouraged emerging talents and contributed towards keeping Konkani cultural traditions alive.
The Sabha's contribution extends beyond theatre alone. Through its various initiatives, competitions, cultural programmes and recognition of deserving artistes, it has continuously worked towards the growth and development of Konkani culture and the preservation of its rich heritage for future generations.
This award is not merely an honour bestowed upon an institution; it is a recognition of the dedication, commitment and selfless service of generations of Konkani enthusiasts, artistes, office-bearers, members, well-wishers and supporters who have contributed to the Sabha's growth and achievements over the decades.
The present executive committee, under the leadership of Dr Rocky D'Cunha OFM Cap, expresses its heartfelt gratitude to the managing committee and all members for their valuable guidance, cooperation and unwavering support.
