Ambani family plans 100-acre township to house 5,000 needy people

Mumbai, Nov 2: The Ambani family has announced a major initiative to provide homes to more than 5,000 people in need through a 100-acre care township in Karjat, Maharashtra, marking the birthday of Nita Ambani.

Nita Ambani performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the project, named ‘Nita Mukesh Ambani Anant Aashray’, in the presence of Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani and other members of the Ambani family.

The township is being developed by Reliance Foundation and will provide permanent homes for orphaned children, senior citizens and persons with disabilities who require care and support.

The project will be developed in multiple phases as a long-term initiative, with a focus on creating a supportive community rather than merely providing residential facilities. It will include healthcare services, schools, rehabilitation facilities, educational opportunities, employment support and recreational amenities.

Nita Ambani said the township would offer residents a family-like environment where they could learn, work, build friendships, celebrate festivals and participate in community activities. Special arrangements will be made for elderly people seeking care and comfort, children without family support and persons with disabilities.

According to Reliance Foundation, the initiative is expected to benefit around 15,000 people, including residents, caregivers, doctors, medical personnel and their families.

The township will comprise eight villages, each named after a sacred river of India. Small residential homes will be developed to provide a homely atmosphere, with house parents and caregivers available to support residents. Each individual will also have the freedom to personalise their room and make it feel like home.

A specialised hospital will form a key part of the township, offering medical care, including treatment for seizures, dental services and palliative care. A dedicated rehabilitation centre will provide physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and hydrotherapy.

The township will also feature a temple, gardens, farms, playgrounds, workshops and cafes, along with facilities for sports and recreational activities. A special animal-care farm, planned along the lines of the Ambani family's Vantara initiative, will allow residents to spend time with animals.

Through the initiative, Reliance Foundation aims to create an inclusive community that combines housing, healthcare, rehabilitation, education and opportunities for social participation.
