Mangalore, Apr 4:
In a tragic incident reported on Wednesday April 4, a 16-year-old student pursuing his SSLC education in St Joseph High School allegedly committed suicide in his room. His body was found hanging from the ceiling fan by a saree.

Ranjith, a resident of Jayanagara near Jalligudde and second son of Raghava Poojary and Jayanthi, is said to have taken this extreme step fearing the forthcoming science paper on Thursday April 5. He closed the door and hanged himself, it is said.

Apart from Ranjith, the couple have two other sons, elder son Rakshith and the youngest Karthik.

He was found hanging at around 11.30 am, according Kankanady rural police. The tiles of the roof had to be removed to enter Ranjith's room. The body has been shifted to Wenlock hospital.

Ranjith is said to have left a death note wherein he expressed his fear of facing the Science paper. He instructed that his last rites be done by his aunt's 4-year-old son Kripala. He has also mentioned the names of his friends in school and wished them all success. Also he advised his younger brother Karthik to study well. He sought forgiveness for his action from his parents.

It is learnt that before committing suicide he had gone to a nearby 'Nagabana' to pray.

Kankanady rural police have registered a case.

Sorry to hear the sad news. Heartfelt condolences to the family members. May is soul rest in peace. The suicidal tendency among the younger generation is increasing day by day, and the same shall be arrested by introducing the moral value based education system in our schools.

Before taking this type of drastic step we can find some signs.
because parents and our teachers are not educated in these matters often fail to identify the symptoms and misery hits for life.
When parents are more concern about achieving goals of this materialistic world and teachers become teaching machines,Suicide is the last option for students. Schools are where children spend most of each day. Training staff members to respond to the
mental health needs of students can prevent suicides.

It's high time, considering the present system of education, that compulsory counselling be made part of the curriculum to all students before the start of exams, so as to instil in them the necessary confidence and courage to face the realities of life, so that such tragic incidents of ending lives due to examination phobia may be prevented.

The is the saddest news to to digest. It is disgusting why todays world pays so much attention to school and studies and why so many young children are taking their lives because of this monster-education. Can't human beings can live without education ? A question the society has to deal with. Did our ancestors have education. How did they live their life and brought up so many lives in the past?

Society and governments must pay attention to lives and re-model the so called education for those who fear the most with conversation with affected students and re-directiong them from school to some sort of crafts or agriculture training where they can shine and live a life.

Please- Teachers & Parents see the "Tare Zameen Par" movie again & again.
Success in Life doesn't come by turning kids into marks scoring robots in exams.
The need is to educate, to think, to ask questions-Why & How.
Understand the subject rather than reproduce it by memory.
Our teaching methods doesn't help the younger generation to face the world on their own.
When ever my son comes to me on the eve of exams- he doesn't know or unable to reproduce what had been taught-
My Advice always is- study to get learned, scoring marks is not my priority, Understand the subject first- then it will be easier to answer the questions. Never study anything for the sole intention of scoring marks in exams.
This is my advice to all others who had approached me either preparing for 10th or PUC exams.
I always discouraged them to learn byheart any subjects. I passed what my Lecturers taught me many years back.
Final parting statement- All subject toppers were worst(losers)as far as coping with stress of family life or that of job. They are taught to succeed in getting RANKS & are expected to succeed in Life which was never taught to them, which finally leads to these tragic end.

So sad to hear this. Our younger generation is going this way. May his soul rest in peace. @shahnawaz kukkikatte, dubai/udupi, when you mentioned about your neighbor boy, i recall my studies, even I studied in kannada medium until 7th and my father sent me to English medium in 8th std. Believe me in 8th standard I felt so inferior, almost every classmates use to talk in English and for me English just bounced over my head. But glad I had my mother who was my inspiration all along, when I reached 10 (in 1989) I really passed with flying colors, beating all English speaking classmates. I feel all moms and dads should be kind enough to understand children problems.

Last fornight back my next door neighbours 14year old son committed suicide for not able to face his 8th std exams, though the news didnt appear in DW, but appeared in Udayavani. He studied in Kannada medium upto 7th and his parents put him in english medium for 8th Std. The poor boy could not cope with the studies in english medium, Pressure from both teachers and parents and inferiority complex led the boy to committ suicide. Both the parents and teachers too are to be blamed for the increasing number of suicides. Teachers are not committed to teaching and parents expect a lot from their children. Poor children have no choice. They dont want to face any humiliation. Parental and teachers guidance is necessary to tackle these problems....May the departed souls rest in peace.

May your soul Rest in Peace dear Ranjith.

I Really feel so sad to hear this kind of incidents. Most of the parents fail to understand the mentality of their child. They don't know what their kids are going through. Even if the kids look normal, they might be having alot of complicated thoughts in their mind. For the parents, Studies, exams may look so easy and Childish but many kids struggle so much in it. i am not at all blaming the parents I'm just blaming our Education system which never gives the chance to kids to open up their self. Education should make the kids confident where our education system create fear among many students. and when the kids start to think there is no one to listen their difficulties, probably they will end up like Ranjith. What really hurting is they don't even know that they can share their problem with anyone. Especially students from Village parts.

The inteligence of the kid shouldnt be judge only on academix excellence but they should be motivated on extra cullicular activities which help to boost the confidence level. Please my student frens dont give up from your life as life is a long way to go with many ups and downs and thats called as LIFE.

    VERY VERY SAD.

NO PROPER GUIDANCE BY PARENTS, RELATIVES,FRIENDS & SCHOOL TEACHERS.

NOWADAYS MOST OF THE CHILDRENS ARE NOT ABLE TO GIVE CONCENRATION ON STUDY DUE TO SEVERAL FACTORS.

    MAINLY TELEVISION, MOBILE & INTERNET.

CHILDRENS STICK TO TELEVISION FOR CRICKET , SERIALS, FUN GAME ETCC..

PARENTS SHOULD ALARM THEM NOW & THEN ABOUT STUDY .

TEACHERS SHOULD GIVE PROPER GUIDANCE ABOUT HOW TO FACE EXAMS, PREPARATION ETC....

MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE.

The bell has rung many times before and this is one more of those times. Couple of months ago a student committed suicide for failing in maths. This is the result of draconian teaching methods used by maths and science teachers and the God forsaken style of drafting text books in Indian schools. It is very difficult for ordinary people to decipher Maths and science text books and the teachers who are equally ill informed use the universal method of control -fear.
