Mangaluru, Nov 8: Mount Carmel Central School, Maryhill, celebrated Deepavali, the festival of lights, with great joy, colour and festive spirit. The school auditorium came alive with a vibrant blend of prayer, tradition, music, dance and meaningful messages as the enthusiastic students of grades VI A, C and D hosted the celebration.

The programme began with a melodious flute rendition by talented students Shlaghya Jain and Thrapthi Suvarna, who welcomed the chief guest, Nitin Shetty, senior bank manager, Bank of Baroda, Bondel and other dignitaries through their enchanting performance. Their soulful music set a serene and festive tone for the occasion.

This was followed by a solemn prayer service, invoking God's blessings for light, peace and harmony. A significant highlight of the celebration was the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the chief guest, vice principal and other dignitaries. The glowing flames symbolised the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance and goodness over negativity, inspiring everyone to spread love, hope and kindness.

Adding depth to the celebration, Aryan G Rao and Reegan Justin Pais spoke on the significance of Deepavali, highlighting its cultural and traditional importance and encouraging everyone to embrace its timeless values of goodness, compassion, unity and hope. The stage then came alive with a colourful group dance by the girls, capturing the joy and excitement of the festival.

A meaningful skit conveyed the message that festivals are not merely occasions for celebration but also opportunities to practise kindness, compassion, peace and unity. A melodious group song added another musical delight, while the energetic group dance by the boys further enlivened the atmosphere.

Addressing the gathering, the chief guest, Nitin Shetty, shared a thoughtful Deepavali message. He emphasised that technology, despite its many benefits, can never replace the warmth of human touch and genuine relationships. Encouraging students to spread smiles and show compassion towards the less fortunate, he highlighted the importance of kindness, empathy and meaningful human connections.

Vice principal Sr Jovita urged the students to uphold the values symbolised by the festival of lights. Through an illustrative story, she explained how a lamp dispels darkness and beautifully compared it to students becoming beacons of light who bring hope and brightness into the lives of others.
As the programme drew to a close, Vihaan Jaden Sequeira and Rithvik P Shetty proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the celebration. The programme was skilfully compered by the young presenters Vihaan Ballal, Aadya G Rao, Liana Evangeline, Ethan Sequeira, Aurik Rego, Rowena Godwin, Sudhanva B R and Gian Oliver D’Silva.
