Kozhikode (Kerala), Apr 12 (IANS): Malayalam comic actor Jagathy Sreekumar, seriously injured in a road accident last month, was Thursday shifted to a Vellore hospital.

The 62-year-old, who was being treated at the MIMS Hospital here, has been flown to Vellore's Christian Medical College and Hospital.

Kerala government chief whip P.C. George, whose son is married to Jagathy's daughter, told IANS that a special air ambulance was brought from Mumbai to fly him to Vellore.

"The air ambulance took Jagathy from Kozhikode airport to Vellore. He is going for some neuro treatment and he is getting better," said George.

Jagathy was injured in the early hours of March 10 near the Kozhikode University campus when his Innova car hit a divider. The driver of the car escaped with minor injuries

The actor, who has acted in more than 1,000 Malayalam films, was on his way from Thrissur to Coorg in Karnataka for director Lenin Rajendran's latest film.

More than a dozen Malayalam films at various stages of production will be affected due to the comedian's accident
