Udupi, May 31: Under the aegis of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, and community medicine department of KMC Hospital, Manipal, Srinat Manipal, Venki Palimar, and Ravi Hirebettu, artists of Manipal Sand Art, created a sculpture using waste items from the hospital in order to create general awareness about the evils of tobacco on the occasion of ‘World Tobacco Day’ on Wednesday May 30.
The art work sends a strong message on how the tobacco industry takes the lives of victims through the deadly disease cancer.
Manipal University vice chancellor Dr Vinod Bhat unveiled the tobacco awareness sculpture.
The hospital medical officer Dr Pulgaonkar, community medicine department – Dr Veena G Kamat, Dr Suma Nair, Ashwini Kumar, Dr Kiran Acharya, and Anil Jacob were present on the occasion.
Placards on the evils of tobacco were displayed and handbills were distributed to the public.
