Udupi, May 31: Under the aegis of district Mogaveer Yuva Sangatan and G Shankar Family Trust Ambalapady, a mass wedding programme was held at Mahalaxmi Samaj Bhavan, Ucchila, on Wednesday May 30.

The ceremony was held for the fourth successive year, wherein wedding nuptials of 11 couples were solemnized. One hundred and five couples were wedded in the past four years.

The nuptial ceremony was led by Vedamurti Raghavendra Upadhyaya, chief priest of Mahalaxmi temple, Ucchila, in the presence of dignitaries and veterans of Mogaveer community and local elders.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Dr G Shankar, chairman of G Shankar Family Trust , said that mass weddings will be organized statewide in order to shun the evils of the dowry menace and to promote simple weddings for the benefit of poor families.
 
The couples were offered cash of Rs 10,000 each, dress materials, two sovereigns gold including ‘Mangalsutra’ and chain.
