Riyadh: Royston Prabhu Elected President of Karavali Welfare Association

Riyadh, Jun 1: Royston Prabhu was unanimously elected president of Karavali Welfare Association, Riyadh (KWAR) during its 5th annual general body meeting, held under the theme 'Karavali Koota'. It came as a surprise to the organizers to have a gathering of over 250 people.
It was a day-long programme for all members and their families.
The proceedings began with the versatile Parvez Ali who welcomed all the members and guests. The president, Ramesh Shetty spoke about the Association and thanked all his executive members and office bearers for the great efforts and cooperation extended during the entire year in all KWAR activities.

General secretary Rajesh Kumar presented a Power Point programme highlighting the objectives and achievements of KWAR and spoke in detail of all the activities carried out during the year regarding charity, donations and plans for the future. He also stressed on the importance of KWAR motto ‘Unity is our Strength’. Jayanth Salian, treasurer, read the financial report of the year giving complete details and transparency.
KWAR committee was dissolved and a 43 member new committee was formed which included several new faces. Fresh elections to the new office bearers were conducted. Election commissioners, Vijay Rai, founder president assisted by Nazeer Ahmed conducted the elections for the current year 2012-13.
The proposal of Royston Prabhu as new president went unopposed and he was unanimously elected president of KWAR for the year 2012-13. It was the turn to elect the vice-president and the entire gathering with a thunderous applause had only one name, that of Parvez Ali. He gracefully accepted the decision of the members. Muzzaffar Ali who has always been a strong supporter and member of KWAR in all its activities became the natural choice as general secretary.
It could be noticed from the gathering the enthusiasm and willingness to participate. Many members voluntarily came forward to offer their time and services to the cause of KWAR. Popular portfolios such as sports were bagged by Bhaskar Salian, and Eric D'Sa was elected as cultural secretary.
After lunch various cultural activities were held such as spot games, housie and a skit by Eric D'Sa and team. The highlight of the day was the ‘Halli Cricket’ tournament which became an instant success with 8 teams participating. The winners were ‘Jolly Cricketers’ and runners up ‘SCFC’. Trophy was handed over by the newly elected president Royston Prabhu.
The ladies wing headed by team leaders Jayanth Salian, Suresh Suvarna, Rajesh Rao had in their own way kept the children busy with different activities and games.
As promised by KWAR, a donation of SR 2000 was handed over to Naushad of ‘India Fraternity Forum’ by ex-president Ramesh Shetty. IFF is spearheading a legal battle to release Ayoub who has been wrongfully jailed in Jeddah.
The newly elected office bearers and committee members were formally inaugurated at a dinner function held at Bharath Restaurant.
