Orange alert issued for Dakshina Kannada district on July 19

Mangaluru, July 18: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Dakshina Kannada district for July 19, following consistent and heavy rainfall in the region.

From July 17 night to July 18 night, both urban and rural areas of the district received continuous rainfall. Reports indicate damage to public and private properties, including partial damage to at least seven houses across the district.

In the city’s Adumaroli area, the compound wall of Shobha Shetty’s house collapsed, causing significant losses. Landslides were also reported behind three to four neighbouring houses, creating a dangerous situation.

MLA Vedavyas Kamath visited the affected site and took stock of the damage.

In Pandeshwar New Road of the 45th Port Ward in the city, continuous rainfall has caused damage to a house and its retaining wall. Former corporator Latif Kandakk visited the spot and inspected the damage.

Dakshina Kannada district recorded a maximum temperature of 30.1°C and a minimum of 22.8°C. Wind speeds over the Arabian Sea are expected to increase from 35 kmph to 40 kmph, and fishermen have been advised to exercise caution.
