Kasargod Man Caught at Mumbai Airport with Gold Biscuits, Saffron


Mumbai, Jun 2 (PTI): An Indian passenger arriving from Dubai was arrested at the international airport here for allegedly trying to smuggle gold biscuit and saffron worth Rs 6.78 lakh, a senior customs official said.

Mohammed Niyas Nellikunje (32) from Kasargod was intercepted after he cleared through the green channel at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus airport in Andheri on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, the official said.

Upon checking his luggage, saffron worth Rs 3.48 lakh and a gold biscuit valued at Rs 3.30 lakh were found, the official said.

As per the rules, only those passengers, who have no goods to declare can pass through the green channel, the official said.

"Nellikkunnu, who landed here by Air India flight from Dubai, was subsequently arrested and the goods were seized," the official added.
