Mangalore, Jun 7: At a press meet held in the city on Thursday June 7, Justine Vas, his son Joel Vas, and Gangadhar, residents of Adyarpadavu near Neermarga, continued to claim compensation and appropriate judicial action against SI Prakash with the support of People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL).
It’s is alleged that the trio was charged with the custodial investigation as per the complaint lodged by Fr Charles Menezes of Shantikiran, Bajjodi (now transferred).
However, Kankanady SI Prakash was accused by the trio of forcibly getting their pubic hair removed and harassment during the departmental investigation. Apart from the torture, Prakash is said to have filed five false cases under crime no. 30/2010, 139/2010, 196/2010, 110/2011, and 112/201.
“The State Human Rights Commission had voluntarily registered a case based on the report of DCP Ramesh and duly instructed Prakash to compensate the three with Rs 25,000. But, Prakash refused to make this payment despite a clear directive by the commissioner of police dated on August 26, 2011, and instead continued to delay matters and to hoodwink the law. He has filed a writ petition in the high court under WP. No. 46757 giving false justifications and tried to mislead the High Court”, said P B D’Sa.
“Therefore, we have raised objections against the writ. In addition, we will approach the high court to fight for justice,” he added. D’Sa also expressed distress at the indifferent treatment of the police and their method to blackmail people who stand against them. Moreover, he congratulated police personnel Ramesh for his apt report.
Suresh Bhat encouraged bringing in some reforms in the police system.
