Kasargod, Jun 8:
“Stringent action will be taken against  rising cases of illegal mining,” said state forest minister K B Ganesh Kumar.

Addressing media persons at the Circuit House on Thursday June 7, minister Ganesh Kumar said that a special squad has been formed to keep a vigil on swindling of forest wealth. “Stringent action will be taken against illegal felling of trees in national reserves and hunting of wild animals. Action will also be taken against officers who connive with poachers and the timber mafia. The law will take effect against poachers and loggers under the Wildlife and Forest Act,” he added.

“The ministry has information about a few environmentalists and distinguished personalities who own tuskers horns and hides of wild animals.  The police department has formed intelligence and vigilance wings to keep a check on wild animal hunting in all districts of the state.  It will function under the supervision of senior forest officials,” said Kumar.
