Mangalore, Jun 15: Members of the District Physical Education Teachers’ Association staged a silent protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s (DC) office on Friday June 15.

The agitators demanded the system of promotion based on experience. P V Joseph, president of the association, said, “Even after having worked for so many years, we retire in the same post whereas other government employees have a system of promotion.”

They requested implementation of Prof L R Vaidyanathan Physical Education Expert Committee’s report with immediate effect.

The demands also included changing of the rules of appointment of physical education lecturers in pre-university colleges, organizing M P Ed training for physical education teachers who have secured B P Ed degrees, to felicitate the winners various of sports activities, and the like.

A memorandum was submitted to Capt Karnik on the occasion.

Addressing the agitators, Capt Ganesh Karnik, MLC, invited the core committee to attend the meeting that will be held on Monday June 18 in Bangalore.

“The meeting will discuss the appeals of the physical education teachers to consider their opinion. Within 15 days of the meeting, proper action will be taken to realize their demands,” he said.

K K Nayak, secretary, Akhil Shetty, vice-president, Ramchandra Gowda, Shekhar Kadthala, Nagesh Nayak, Jayram Gowda, Krishna K, and Shivanand Kaykini were present at the protest.
