Udupi, Jun 21: The bodies of Narasimha (60), Raju (46) and Kiran (17) who had gone missing at a pond in a field at Moodugiliyar near Kota here on Wednesday June 20 night have been found.

They had gone fishing on Wednesday evening at around 5.30 pm, but did not return home till 10 pm. Efforts to trace them had gone in vain, and they were feared drowned after their clothes, fishing lines and footwear were found beside the pond.

The bodies were retrieved from the pond late on Thursday June 21 morning after an intense search operation led by Kotal police inspector Ashok P and Kundapur fire service station master Bharat Kumar.

The bodies have been handed over to the respective families.

Narasimha was the son of Maasti, while Raju was the son of Kushta. Kiran was the third and youngest son of Raju and Kusuma. Narasimha and Raju were neighbours. Kiran was a student of Kota Vivek PU College.

Raju was employed with a boat, but was home ever since the ban on fishing was enforced.

As there had been incessant rains for three days, the trio went to the pond to catch the 'Oge' fish which is found during the monsoons.

Kota police have registered a case of death due to drowning.

What a horrifying tragedy. May their souls rest in eternal peace and give comfort to the bereaved families and friends. It was not advisable for the three to go fishing in the pond in this kind of weather. Most of the deaths happen in the sea, rivers and ponds during monsoon season. I am also very fond of fishing and during my young age during our vacation we used to go to Udhyavara for fishing. But we had expert local fishermen who use to guide us.
