Udupi, Jul 7:
A leopard was trapped in a trap laid for a hog at Anajru village near Hiriyadka on Saturday July 7.

Villagers usually place traps for hogs and rabbits in their field. The leopard got caught unexpectedly and struggled to get out. It is said to have fallen into the trap on Friday July 6 night.

In the morning at around 8 am Hiradka police was informed about it and later forest officials came to the spot. Officials from Pilikula Nisargadhama rescued the leopard which had become weak.

According to the villagers, the leopard has been roaming in the vicinity for the past one month, and was reportedly the cause behind domestic animals going missing in the past few weeks. Forest officials said that the leopard may have come from Perdoor.

Dr Roshan and Prakash Poojary, range forest officer, Udupi helped in the rescue operations.

The leopard was then let into Someshwar forest.
