Mangalore, Jul 12: Away from the noise and rush of the city, the sight of farmers in lush green fields is a refreshing experience indeed. That is where one comes face to face with the provider of one's food, the reason for one's sustainance, the people who earn their daily bread by giving us ours.

Farming activities in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district reaches its peak during the monsoon season, with farmers getting busy sowing seeds to reap rich rewards, literally.

The paddy field at Pavanje near Haleangady is one among many that is witness to the busy farming activities.

Paddy seeds are planted in small fields with irrigation facility about a month in advance, in May. As soon as rains arrive, vacant fields are ploughed, and paddy seedlings are re-planted, duly ensuring space between them.

Seedlings grown in a small field will suffice to plant an area about 20 times bigger.

Periodical weeding, fertilizing is done to ensure healthy growth of the saplings. By October, the crop is ready for harvest.

    it is really worth seeing ... How
    nice the pictures are ... Once if we see these fields .. it attracts us again and again to see the same ..and we should be greatfull to the people who are working in the field ..Because of the development of the cities , gradually these fields are vanishing , that is the sadest part ..

    Long live the farmer !

    Sad that the agricultural activities appears to die down with the older generation as the younger educated lot feels it inferior to work in the fields.

    If use of machinery will be promoted and encouraged, perhaps due to modified methods our fertile lands to continue to exist than ending up with coconut/betel nut farms.

    I used to work in my earlier days in the farm as paddy cultivation,I feel proud myself when I remember myself those days.Working in the Green Fields always gives you Health, Wealth and overall to say a Happy moment to work together itself.

    Thank you very much Dear Daiji for your nice and very clear natural photos. Being a Farmer, for a moment I felt like rubbing my body with fertile mud of our own paddy field and listening to melodious “Pardana” from our agricultural labour on the paddy field

    Great work by Daijiworld. I think we can hardly see these scenes in Mangalore now. I had tears in my eyes when I saw this. What days they were! we were taught all the work of fields as well as schooling. But the present generation do not enjoy this at all. I dont' think so.

    Pictures remind William Wordsworth's popular poetry 'Daffodils'.The poem was the most favourite one to Late Rev.B.A.D'souza,English teacher/Principal for PUC first batch in 1966-67 at Pompei Jr College Talipady.No student can forget his way of expaining the beautiful situations.
